Signal, a name that’s becoming quite popular after WhatsApp’s controversial privacy policy update that requires users to share their data with the parent company, Facebook, and also with Instagram.
This resulted in more and more people starting to leave WhatApp and migrate to Signal.
Signal was founded in Silicon Valley, in February 2018 with Brain Acton, who co-founded WhatsApp before it got sold to Facebook.
Especially after Elon musk tweeted about the alternative, Signal started gaining popularity.

Signal gained over 525 million monthly active users, which led to the outage of the servers running to keep Signal working.
Signal faced an outage starting on January 15, where users can open the app and send messages too, but nothing was getting delivered. Signal was expanding the capacity by adding new servers every day but millions and millions of new users were joining and sending messages which lead to the outage.
But Signal’s now back up online and working fine. Just the outage left some errors in the app as Signal shared in their recent tweet, “As the side effect of this outage, users might see errors in some of their chats.”

Here’s what you can do if you still can’t use Signal, Android users might be seeing, “Bad encrypted message” after sending a message, to solve this you should tap on the three dots on the top right corner and click on “Reset Secure Session.”
iOS users might be seeing, “Received message was out of sync” to fix this, simply tap on “Reset Session”
