Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon is about to step down as CEO

Jeff Bezos, who founded Amazon back in 1994 from his garage and has been its CEO since then has now planned to step down as its CEO.

Reports suggest that Jeff is planning to step down as Amazon’s Chief Executive Officer and planning to take an Executive Position on Amazon’s board.

Bezos sent an official letter to his employees where he wrote that he is planning to step down from the CEO position in the Q3 of 2021.

His letter stated that he will take on the role of the Executive Chair of the Amazon Board and from that point on, the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Amazon Web Services, Andy Jassy will take on his position as the new Chief Executive Officer of the company.

In his own words, Jeff says “In the Exec Chair role, I intend to focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives. Andy is well known inside the company and has been at Amazon almost as long as I have. He will be an outstanding leader, and he has my full confidence.”.

In his letter, he stated that being the Executive Chair of the Board will provide him more time and energy to invest in a few of his other projects. He also wishes to be on the board in order to keep himself attached to Amazon’s important initiatives.

In his letter, he added, “As Exec Chair I will stay engaged in important Amazon initiatives but also have the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions. I’ve never had more energy, and this isn’t about retiring. I’m super passionate about the impact I think these organizations can have.”

Google & Microsoft’s CEO Congratulated

Meanwhile Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, and Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadela also congratulated Bezos on his decision. They congratulated Jeff Bezos and Andy Jassy as well for his new roles.
